Desert Chapel

Architecture can act as a link between the earth and sky – body and soul and the Chapel was meant to evoke this same spiritual connection. Inspired by the slot canyons of the American Southwest, the Chapel emerges from solid rock. Over the pulpit was a soaring wing that represented the transcendent nature of the human spirit. The juxtaposition of the submerged Chapel and soaring wing was analogous to the heaviness of the body in contrast to the lightness of the soul.
