Institute of Photography
Fall 2009 | Studio 301
The NYC Institute of Photography acted as both a place of learning and gallery. The urban site, only 25ft. wide, made incorporating the ambitious programming a challenge and necessitated a taller structure. The program visually manifested itself on the building's façade as a collage of distinct spaces visible from the outside. Transparent sections made the façade a living composition that constantly shifted based on the activity inside. The building also featured sustainable elements including shading systems and passive ventilation.
